According to the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, the city has spent VND40 billion in interest-free loans for businesses to reserve essential goods for the coming Tet holiday season.
The price subsidy programme, starting from January 1 to March 31, is currently being carried out at over 50 price-stabilising venues across the city, with commodities sold at least 5% lower than market prices.
* The Quang Nam provincial Department of Industry and Trade has co-ordinated with a number of businesses throughout the province to deploy 56 venues offering price stabilisation, in a bid to bringing Vietnamese goods to rural and remote areas and stabilise the prices of essential goods during the Lunar New Year 2013.
There will be 29 stores offering subsidies in mountainous areas and 27 others in the midlands and plains.
During the Tet holiday, 11 mobile stores will be opened to serve purchasing demands for local residents in Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban, Hiep Duc, Tien Phuoc, Phuoc Son, and Tay Giang districts.
The province has provided a total amount of VND28 billion in loans with subsidised interest rates for enterprises that joined the price subsidy programme.
