The ceremony held by the Ministry of Transport and People’s Committees of Tien Giang and Ben Treprovinces saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai.

The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge is about 3.8km upstream from the existing Rach Mieu Bridge and has a total length of 17.6km, including roundabout roads and the cable-stayed bridge. The four-lane bridge allows a maximum speed of 80km per hour.

A total investment of over 5.17 trillion VND from the central budget will be poured into the project, which is scheduled for completion by 2025.

Deputy PM Le Minh Khai said that the current Rach MieuBridge faces frequent traffic jams and has yet to meet the socio-economic development of provinces in the Mekong Delta region. Thus, the Government has approved the building of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge to meet increasing transportation demand on National Highway 60 and boost the socio-economic development of Tien Giang and Ben Tre, as well as the Mekong Delta region in general.

He also asked for the good implementation of land clearance and compensation for locals affected by the project, ensuring the progress and quality of the project.
