The visit is one of activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - 2022) and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - 2022).
At the meeting, Secretary of the Da Nang Municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang expressed his best wishes to Lao Consul General in Da Nang Souphanh Hadaoheuang and the Lao Consulate General's staff on the occasion of the two anniversaries, affirming that the Party Committee, administration, and people of Da Nang, as well as Vietnam as a whole, have always attached great importance to cultivating the solidarity and special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
To date, Da Nang City has signed 35 documents of agreement and memorandum of understanding with seven localities of Laos. In the 2018-2022 period, Da Nang City spent more than 115 billion VND to support five provinces in south-central Laos in building schools and public works, providing scholarships for students to study in Da Nang, supporting the people of localities in Laos grow crops and raise livestock, and supporting research on local socio-economic development planning.
The programme of giving scholarships to Lao cadres and students to study at universities in Da Nang is a bright spot in the cooperation relationship between Da Nang and localities of Laos. Since 2002, Da Nang has provided scholarships to about 1,000 Lao students.
From 2019, Da Nang City has allocated 2 billion VND each year to donate medical equipment for COVID-19 prevention and control and food to help Lao people in difficult circumstances and other works.
Lao Consul General in Da Nang Souphanh Hadaoheuang thanked the city leaders for the good wishes and expressed his appreciation for the great support that Da Nang has given to the south-central provinces of Laos over the past time.
He affirmed that he will continue to tighten the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Da Nang and the south-central provinces of Laos, thus contributing to fostering the relationship between the two countries.
