Pham Thi Ngoc Thach, Director of Blue Ocean Import-Export Trading Co., said the milestone represents a significant step in gaining access to one of the world’s most demanding markets in terms of biosecurity, technical and quality standards.
Earlier, on April 13, Viet Nam’s Plant Production and Protection Department, in coordination with Dong Thap provincial authorities, held a ceremony marking the dispatch of the first pomelo shipment from the province to Australia.
To bring Vietnamese pomelos to the Australian market, authorities and businesses from both sides worked together for more than two years, conducting technical exchanges and finalising pest risk assessments.
The first shipment, weighing 940.5 kg, was transported by air and cleared for entry upon arrival in Australia.
Upon arrival, the batch was showcased and offered for sale in Sydney to introduce the product to local distributors and consumers.
A subsequent commercial shipment of approximately five tonnes is currently being prepared for export.
