Renovation work will include improvements to various structures in Con Dao, introduction and direction signage, and reproductions of the image of prisoners by wax sculpture, combined with lights and sounds.
According to Ba Ria-Vung Tau Party Secretary Pham Viet Thanh, the renovation of Con Dao is intended to promote the value of the historic site sustainably.
The project is expected to be considered by the National Assembly Standing Committee in March for inclusion in the 2021-2025 medium-term public investment plan.
In 2020, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province issued a resolution on investing 143 billion VND in the project using the provincial budget.
At the most recent meeting, the provincial People’s Council decided to adjust the size of the project to 256 billion VND, of which the central budget will provide 100 billion VND.
Con Dao is known for its prison system built by the French colonialists to jail Vietnamese revolutionaries.
