Female NA deputies praised for contributions to national development

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised female National Assembly (NA) deputies for their contributions to the NA and national development at a meeting held at the Presidential Palace on October 20, on the occasion of the opening of the 15th National Assembly’s 4th session and Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20).

The meeting also saw the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairwoman of its Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai, and Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

Speaking at the meeting, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc also conveyed the greetings of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to all participating delegates.

He affirmed that women have always held a very important position throughout the thousands of years of national history, and Vietnamese women have always shown their noble qualities, intelligence, self-sacrifice and very strong will, especially during difficult circumstances.

Vietnam ranks 62nd out of 193 countries worldwide for the percentage of female NA deputies. The 15th National Assembly has 151 female deputies, accounting for 30.26%, while Asia’s average is 21% and the global average is 26.4%. Notably, Vietnam had its first ever NA Chairwoman during the 14th National Assembly term.

The President also emphasised the decisive role of women in achieving the goal of improving labour productivity, reducing hunger and poverty, narrowing the development gap between regions and localities as well as towards an independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.

He expressed his wish that female NA deputies would continue to work effectively and make more active contributions to the overall success of the 15th National Assembly.
