The ceremony saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, officials, former leaders of the ministry and representatives from the diplomatic corps in Hanoi and ASEAN member countries.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy PM Minh stressed the historic milestone of the ASEAN Community’s establishment to all ASEAN member countries after 48 years of the bloc’s development.
The establishment was the result of the Southeast Asian countries’ efforts for peace, friendship, co-operation and development for all nations, he said.
It will bring the regional co-operation and connectivity into a new era of deeper and closer links, meeting all the members’ interests and reflecting the bloc’s central role and activeness in the trend of increasing co-operation and connectivity in the region and the world at large, Deputy PM Minh added.
On this occasion, the official expressed his gratitude and hope that international friends, particularly ASEAN’s partners, would continue to support the bloc and Vietnam.
He reiterated that ASEAN has been a pillar in Vietnam’s foreign policy and Vietnam will spare no efforts to accompany the bloc’s development, participate in the bloc’s co-operation pro-actively and responsibly, and make further contributions to build the community successfully.
