The event was attended by Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh and officials from neighbouring Tuyen Quang province.

In his commemorative speech, Ha Giang Secretary Trieu Tai Vinh recalled the provincial history from its foundation in 1891, notably the past 25 years during which Ha Giang emerged from an underprivileged province receiving food aid annually, to one that can now ensure food security.

The average per capita income has reached VND17.64 million (US$794) a year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh praised the Ha Giang people and government’s efforts to overcome difficulties and suggested the province focus on its strengths such as tourism in the Dong Van Plateau and cross-border trade.

On the occasion, he also awarded the Independence Order, first class, to the Ha Giang people, government and Party committee under the commission of President Tran Dai Quang.
