To date, Hai Duong, one of Vietnam’s two largest lychee-growing regions along with Bac Giang, has harvested 32,000 tonnes, of which 13,000 tonnes are shipped to China and 3,000 to Japan.

On June 9, DARD held an event to announce the export of Hai Duong lychee to Japan, the US, Australia and Europe, and the inclusion of the fruit on the menus of Vietnam Airlines flights.

This is the first time that Hai Duong lychee has been served with meals on the national flag carrier’s flights.

According to DARD, the province’s total lychee cultivation area is estimated at 8,800 hectares, mainly in Thanh Da District and Chi Linh City, with an expected output of over 60,000 tonnes.

Hai Duong has 203 growing zone codes and 13 eligible packaging facilities for export.

Early-ripening lychee is currently selling for 80,000-100,000 VND (3.41-4.26 USD) per kilogram, while a kilogram of lychee during the main harvest season is priced at around 20,000 VND (0.85 USD).
