Accordingly, first-time registration fees for cars with less than ten seats will increase from the current 12% to 20% of the vehicle prices, while the second registration fee will remain at 12%.

The license plate fee for personal cars with fewer than ten seats will increase tenfold from VND2 million (US$96) to VND20 million (US$960).

Motorbike registration and number plate fees will be adjusted according to the value of the vehicle, up to a maximum of VND4 million (US$192) per motorbike.

Parking fees for cars will also be altered and the highest monthly charges may go up to VND4.5 million (US$216).

These fee increases are part of efforts to curb the number of personal motor vehicles, reduce traffic gridlock, and increase budget revenue.

The new fees will be applied as of January 1, 2012.
