Co-organised by Hue Central Hospital and the Hawaiian Eye Foundation, the workshop is part of   activities in response to the ongoing the 2014 Hue Festival and co-operation programmes between the two parties.

Delegates at the conference heard reports by ophthalmology staff from the US, Canada, and from Vietnam’s Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City providing new information about specialised ophthalmological advances in cataract surgeries, laser and refractive operations, glaucoma, corneal and ocular surface diseases, pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology, retina-vitreous diseases, and cosmetic eye surgeries.

Along with updates of new knowledge, leading ophthalmologists will also carry out diagnosis and treatment on patients to help increase the capacity of domestic clinicians, particularly those at Hue Central Hospital.

Prof. Nguyen Trong Nhan, Chairman of Vietnam Ophthalmology Society said the Hawaiian Eye Foundation has enjoyed over ten years of ophthalmology co-operation with Vietnam. Through the support by the foundation, many doctors who are members of ICEM have taught in Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, while many domestic ophthalmologists have been sent to India, the US and other places to develop professional skills in ophthalmology.

Held for the first time in 2006, the fifth biennial ICEM will run until April 17.
