Journalism promotes development of cultural industries

On May 31, 2025, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with Viet Nam Television and the People’s Committee of Hai Phong City, organised the forum “The role of journalism in promoting the development of cultural industries in 2025.”

At the forum, many heartfelt opinions were shared, clearly reflecting the pivotal role of journalism in building and developing cultural industries. In today’s digital era, journalism is not only a simple means of communication but also holds a special position in the value chain of the cultural industry.

Journalism directly participates in content creation, helping to spread both traditional and modern cultural values, shaping aesthetic tastes and social awareness, and promoting sustainable cultural development.

Speaking at the forum, Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Deputy Head of the PCC Commission for Communication, Education and Mass Mobilisation, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, and Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists Association, affirmed: To develop a sustainable and effective cultural industry, the joint efforts of the entire society are needed. Among them, journalism plays an especially important role.

Journalism is the pioneering force in spreading new creative initiatives, promoting the unique cultural values of each locality and the nation as a whole. At the same time, journalism also serves as an effective platform for social criticism, promptly reflecting shortcomings and contributing to the progressive, modern, and practical adjustment of cultural development policies.

Mr Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Phong City, emphasised that in the journey of comprehensive development, central and local press agencies have always been important bridges for delivering information to the people, guiding public opinion, and spreading positive values.

Journalism plays an important role in publicising socio-economic development achievements, introducing cultural heritages, scenic spots, and tourism potential of Hai Phong, thereby enhancing the city’s image and attracting investment and domestic and international tourists.

In recent years, Hai Phong has implemented many policies and communication programmes to promote the city’s image, closely tied to its culture, people, and potential for sustainable development.

According to Ms Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong City, journalism is an indispensable part of promoting local cultural industries.

The city has actively commissioned the production of television, radio, and internet programmes featuring vivid reflections of Hai Phong’s cultural life, people, and tourism.

In addition, initiatives such as “Hai Phong Television Theatre”, campaigns promoting the value of the World Natural Heritage Site Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago, journalism contests, and tourism promotion programmes have been strongly implemented and received wide public interest.

The forum is not only an opportunity to honour the contributions of the Vietnamese revolutionary press over the past 100 years, but also a significant starting point in affirming the position of journalism in the cause of developing modern, integrated, and resilient Vietnamese culture and people.
