Construction of the bridge commenced on May 19, 2013 by the Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No.4 in collaboration with Thang Long Construction Corporation. It cost VND1.416 trillion (nearly US$65 million) sourced by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

Ky Lam bridge, which crosses the Thu Bon River, measures 1,045 metres in length and 26 metres in width.

The bridge is open to two-way traffic and was constructed with reinforced and post-tensioned reinforced concrete which can withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake.

The inauguration of Ky Lam Bridge is an important event, significantly contributing to accelerating the progress of the entire highway project, which connects the provinces of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.

Once completed, the route, a part of the north-south highway, is expected to promote the development of the central key economic region as well as boost socio-economic growth, ensure security and defence and improve the living standards of people around the country, particularly in the surrounding provinces.

Furthermore, the highway will significantly contribute to ensuring smooth traffic for emergency aid activities for people in flood-prone areas.
