Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam was the keynote speaker at the event.

The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, Member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP)'s Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence, along with numerous generals and officers of the Lao People's Army, and representatives from the Office of the Vietnamese Defence Attaché in Laos.

In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam highlighted that 50 years ago, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the historic Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, achieved a resounding victory. This brought an end to the prolonged and heroic resistance against US imperialism and marked a turning point in Viet Nam’s history.

He described this as one of the greatest victories and most glorious milestones in the nation’s struggle for independence and reunification, ending over a century of colonial rule and ushering in a new era of peace, independence, and prosperity for the Vietnamese people.

On behalf of the party, state, and people of Vietnam, Ambassador Tam expressed his appreciation to the high-ranking Lao delegation led by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith for attending Viet Nam’s national reunification anniversary events.

He emphasised that the shared history of the two nations is one of friendship and solidarity, forged through generations of living side by side and helping each other in all circumstances, especially during their common struggle for independence and reunification in 1975.

Recalling major milestones and the historic significance of Vietnam’s reunification, Ambassador Tam stated that the April 30 victory was a monumental achievement in the socialist revolutionary cause led by the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh. It was a proud chapter in Viet Nam’s thousand-year journey of national construction and defence.

The event also held immense international significance and resonated strongly with peace-loving peoples across the world. It served as a glorious marker of Viet Nam’s victory and laid the foundation for national development.

The ambassador underlined the crucial role of the Viet Nam-Laos fighting alliance in achieving national reunification, noting that the April 30 victory also gave strength and momentum to the Lao revolution, culminating in the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975.

He reiterated Viet Nam’s enduring gratitude for the invaluable support and sacrifices from socialist countries, global peace movements, the peoples of the three Indochinese nations, and especially the profound and loyal support of the Lao Party and people.

The ambassador also highlighted the timeless lessons and strategic significance of the 1975 Spring Victory, not only for Viet Nam’s revolutionary cause but also in strengthening the special solidarity between Viet Nam and Laos in the new era.

On behalf of the party, state, and people of Vietnam, he extended heartfelt thanks for the unwavering support provided by the party, state, army, and people of Laos, both during Vietnam’s past struggle for liberation and in its ongoing efforts toward national construction and defence.

In his congratulatory remarks, Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong applauded the historic achievements made by Viet Nam across multiple sectors. He expressed deep gratitude for Viet Nam’s meaningful, sincere, and effective support for Laos in both past and present efforts for national development and defence.

Reflecting on the proud history of the combat alliance between the Lao People’s Army and the Viet Nam People’s Army, he honoured the great sacrifices made by Vietnamese volunteer soldiers for the Lao revolution. He affirmed that every success of the Lao revolution has been closely linked to that of Viet Nam.

The Lao general stressed that the solidarity and shared struggle against a common enemy was the decisive factor behind the two nations’ victories in many campaigns, most notably the Ho Chi Minh Campaign that liberated southern Viet Nam and achieved full national reunification in April 1975.
