Largest shipping vessel designed and built by Viet Nam launched

A 65,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) shipping vessel, the largest of its kind ever designed and built by Vietnamese companies, was launched by the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) and Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company on December 24 in Hai Phong.

The launch of the 65,000 DWT shipping vessel demonstrates the capacity of SBIC and Nam Trieu.

The vessel, named Truong Minh 02, is the second of a series of four ships built for Dong Bac Shipbuilding Industry Company.

Truong Minh 02 is 200 metres long and 32.26 metres wide, and is equipped with modern systems that comply with the latest maritime conventions, enabling it to operate in all international waters and meet the most stringent environmental requirements.

The ship was designed by the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Engineering Company (VISEC) and Bluetech Finland, and built by Nam Trieu under the supervision of Japan’s ClassNK and the Viet Nam Register.

The launch of the 65,000 DWT vessel demonstrates the significant efforts of Nam Trieu’s engineers and workers, said Pham Quang Tuyen, General Director of Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company.

According to Tran Manh Ha, General Director of SBIC, Truong Minh 02 is a large and complex project that has faced considerable pressure in terms of progress, quality and construction conditions.

In this context, the successful launch of the vessel, designed and built in Viet Nam, provides clear evidence of SBIC and Nam Trieu’s capabilities in production organisation, engineering management and construction operations.
