As new local transmissions were detected in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30 (after 89 days without any infections in the community), the MOH and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control instructed local departments of health and medical examination facilities nationwide to give the highest level of priority to strengthening epidemic prevention measures, whilst adhering to hospital safety criteria and strictly implementing the screening, diversification, isolation and testing of all suspected cases.
The concerned units should urgently handle all risks before December 7 and continue to strengthen their inspection and supervision of affiliated units, while providing full treatment for all positive COVID-19 cases.
For Ho Chi Minh City, the ministry requested the Director of the city’s Department of Health to drastically direct the heads of affiliated medical examination and treatment facilities to strictly implement two sets of criteria for safe hospitals and clinics, with special attention paid to public screening and testing to immediately detect suspected cases and new infected cases (if any), while setting up working missions to inspect medical examination and treatment establishments, focusing on facilities with high risk and epidemiological factors related to new cases.
Regarding the newly detected cases in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the latest reports from the city’s COVID-19 surveillance system, as of this morning (Dec 3), the city has not recorded new infections, while 1,244 samples of close contacts to Patients 1342, 1347, 1348 and 1349 have been taken.

Among them, 841 close contacts (F1) were negative, while 11 others are waiting for their test results. 791 close contacts of F1 cases showed negative test results.
Since the first outbreak of COVID-19, the city has recorded 138 positive cases, of which 106 have recovered.
In Dong Nai Province, all four F1s of Patient 1342 in Ho Chi Minh City have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2.
Meanwhile, Tien Giang Province has put an F1 in Chau Thanh District into isolation after the student was confirmed to have had close contact with Patient 1,347 in Ho Chi Minh City.
On December 3, Tien Giang authorities decided to temporarily stop all crowded gatherings from December 2 to 6. In particular, Tien Giang has launched a rapid response team for epidemic prevention and control which is operating 24 hours a day.
Tien Giang has hosted isolation for 2,383 repatriated Vietnamese citizens in its local isolation camps. Among these, two have been confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2. Currently, one has been released after showing multiple negative test results, while the other is in isolation at a field hospital.
