President Vo Van Thuong thanked the NA for entrusting him and allowing him to serve the country and people as President.
He gave his sincere thanks to the Party Central Committee, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other Party and State leaders, for confiding in him and recommending him for this position, calling this both a great honour and an extremely heavy responsibility for him.

Expressing his gratitude to the late President Ho Chi Minh, the national liberation hero, global cultural celebrity, the great teacher of the Vietnamese revolution, the founder and first President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), President Vo Van Thuong vowed to constantly study and follow his thought, morality and style. He also said he always remembers the great sacrifices and merits of the generations of leaders, cadres, Party members, soldiers, and patriotic Vietnamese people, who helped the country have the fortune, potential, position and prestige like today.
I am fortunate to have grown up among the Party’s gratitude and people’s love and have been inspired by the hands, brains, industriousness, hard work and efforts of people in all three regions of the country. I always keep in mind that I have to make efforts and try to do more useful things, as well as persistently pursue good values”.

Being proud of the fortune, potential, position and prestige of the country, Thuong said he is deeply aware of the requirements and tasks when the country enters a new stage of development. He also expressed his determination to realise the aspiration of building a prosperous and happy country, towards becoming a developing nation with a modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a socialist-oriented developed country with high income by 2045, when the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam will be celebrated.
President Vo Van Thuong said to achieve that goal, a matter of principle and vital significance and a solid foundation for the country and our regime, is that the steadfastness in the application and creative development of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought, as well as the goal of national independence and socialism and the Party's renewal guideline, towards ensuring the highest interests of the nation and people, based on the basic principles of international law, equality and cooperation for mutual benefit.
The President said he is deeply aware of the importance of loyalty and steadfastness in the goal, the ideal, and the path chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the people.
“Persevering in pursuit of good values”
President Vo Van Thuong pledged to train and improve himself and make efforts to fulfil the tasks of the State President as stipulated in the Constitution and join the entire Party, people, and army in doing their utmost for the sake of a prosperous people and a strong, democratic, equal, and civilised country, taking firm steps towards socialism.
The new State leader vowed to work tirelessly to build up and bring into play the strength of the great national solidarity, pay sincere heed to opinions from all patriotic Vietnamese people; deeply grasp the conception of “taking the people as the root” and considering the legitimate interests of the people as the starting point and an important goal of all decisions.
He also pledged to persistently and resolutely defend the national sovereignty and territorial integrity, maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development, comprehensively build strong armed forces and solid people-based defence and security, actively contribute to peace, friendship, cooperation, and development in the region and the world, in the spirit that Vietnam is a friend, a trustworthy partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.
