Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing pays official visit to Viet Nam

President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing was born on July 3, 1956, in Dawei, Tanintharyi Region, Myanmar. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree of the Defence Services Academy; studied at the Command and General Staff College; and holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies of the National Defence College. He has also been awarded an Honourary Doctorate in Public Administration by the University of Yangon.

Min Aung Hlaing has held various positions in the Myanmar Armed Forces, including Commander of a Light Infantry Division; Commander of the Bureau of Special Operations; and Chief of General Staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force. He served as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces from 2011 to 2026 and has served as President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar since April 10, 2026.

He was awarded the Knight Grand Cordon (First Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand (2013); the Honourary Malaysian Armed Forces Order for Valour (First Class) – Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces Order for Valour (2013); the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant of Thailand (2018); and the Order of Alexander Nevsky of the Russian Federation (2023). He received the titles of Honourary Doctor of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (2020); Honourary Professor of the Military University of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation (2021); and Honourary Professor of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (2026). During his tenure as Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Min Aung Hlaing visited Viet Nam three times.
