Newly-elected President Trong meets with his new staff at President's Office

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a meeting with staff at the President’s Office on October 23, after being elected by the National Assembly (NA) as the State President of Vietnam earlier that day.

* General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong elected Vietnamese President

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary and President Trong shared that he is both happy and worried after assuming the new position, because it is a great honour with the trust from the NA and the people for him, but also a very heavy responsibility to complete the work assigned.

He expressed his sincere thanks to his new colleagues at the President’s Office for their warm welcome and support. Looking insightfully into the functions and tasks of the State President's Office, the top leader urged the Office to assist him right from his first days in the new position so that the President would fulfill his tasks.

He also asked officials and civil servants at the Office to promote the unit’s traditions over the past 70 years of development, as well as uniting for effective operation and coordination with other central and local offices, agencies and units.

Secretary General and President Trong also clarified that the General Secretary and the State President are two different positions, not a joint position or unification, but a person performing two tasks. Therefore, it is important to better coordinate among the related agencies, and at the same time do the right task with right functions, to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned.

Reporting to the leader on the seven-decade development of the Office, Dao Viet Trung, Head of the President’s Office, congratulated Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on his election as the State President of Vietnam by the NA with a very high number of votes. He also stated that the Party, the NA and the people were in high consensus to entrust the General Secretary with the task of being the State President. It also expresses the expectation and belief of the people in the nation’s future with the new development stage.

Earlier, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong burned incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace.
