According to the national weather service, today, July 2, the northeast region, southern Son La province, Hoa Binh province and the central region are being baked in the intense heat with highest temperatures ranging from 35-38C.
In the central region in particular, some places may face extreme sweltering heat as the mercury may rise to 39C.
Duration with temperatures of over 35C are lasting from 10-18 hours.
Meanwhile, the UV index in localities across the country is at very high and harmful thresholds, at between 9-10. The lowest relative humidity is at 45-65%.
The intense heat in the North is likely to last until July 4, while in the Central region, it will subside no later than from July 6.
Due to the influence of the prolonged and intense heat combined with low humidity in the air and strong southwest winds, there is a high risk of fires and explosions in residential areas due to the high demand for electricity, as well as a high risk of bush fires in the central region.
In addition, the hot weather can also cause dehydration, exhaustion and heat stroke for those exposed to high temperatures for a long time.
