The peoples of both countries have always cherished this profound bond and remain committed to preserving and nurturing Viet Nam–Czech friendship, thereby laying a solid foundation for opening new horizons of cooperation.
The relationship between Viet Nam and the Czech Republic — two countries that are geographically far apart — was sown very early. During the Vietnamese people’s arduous struggle for national independence, friends from Czechoslovakia (formerly) wholeheartedly supported Viet Nam both materially and spiritually, contributing to the victory of the Vietnamese nation. This sincere sentiment, forged through the flames of war, has become a red thread running through the countries’ traditional friendship and sound cooperation.
The year 2025 marks a special milestone as Viet Nam and the Czech Republic officially upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership. This is clear evidence of the enduring vitality of bilateral friendship and cooperation, and it opens prospects for more comprehensive, profound, and effective development across multiple areas.
Economic cooperation has been identified as one of the important pillars of the bilateral relationship. Viet Nam is one of the Czech Republic’s important partners and a high-potential market in Southeast Asia. An increasing number of Czech enterprises are interested in expanding investment and business activities in Viet Nam, notably including the automobile manufacturing project of Skoda Group — one of the Czech Republic’s leading automakers — in Quang Ninh Province.
For its part, Viet Nam attaches great importance to strengthening relations with its long-standing friends in Central and Eastern Europe, among which the Czech Republic is a top priority partner. Both sides are making efforts to maximise the advantages of the Viet Nam–EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and other cooperation mechanisms to soon raise bilateral trade to 5 billion USD, commensurate with the level of their strategic partnership.
There remains ample room to promote economic cooperation between Viet Nam and the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic is a country with a strong and stable economy in Eastern Europe. With industrial foundations dating back to the 19th century, Czech industry enjoys favourable conditions for development, particularly in the automobile industry, metallurgy, mining, mechanical engineering, and electronics manufacturing.
Meanwhile, from a poor country devastated by war, Viet Nam has risen to become one of the fastest-growing and most sustainable economies in the Asia–Pacific region. Viet Nam also serves as an important gateway enabling the Czech Republic to access ASEAN’s dynamic and expansive market. With a solid foundation of strong political trust and highly complementary economies and markets, Viet Nam and the Czech Republic have every basis to open new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Duong Hoai Nam, Ambassador of Viet Nam to the Czech Republic, affirmed that, alongside traditional areas, the two sides hold significant potential for strengthening cooperation in green transition, digital transformation, renewable energy, and mineral extraction.
In addition to deepening economic ties, Viet Nam–Czech relations have also achieved positive results in education–training and people-to-people exchange. Members of Tthe Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, numbering around 100,000 people, serve as “cultural ambassadors”, contributing to tightening friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples. Their hearts remain turned toward the homeland, always ready to share difficulties with compatriots. Recently, the overseas Vietnamese community actively supported fundraising campaigns to help residents in central Viet Nam overcome the consequences of natural disasters, embodying the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance.
Seventy-five years of companionship have strengthened the sincere and profound friendship between these two traditional partners. In a world witnessing complex and unpredictable changes, the continued efforts of Viet Nam and the Czech Republic to bolster their relationship on the basis of friendship is in alignment with global trends and supports the two countries in moving forward confidently in this new stage of development, amid new tasks and challenges.
