The Government official made the affirmation at a reception in Hanoi on September 6 for members of Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE).
He said that the 12th Party Congress Resolution has set an overall target on “protecting and effectively utilising natural resources, while coping with climate change”. The resolution also stresses the importance of enhancing economic growth and promoting innovation for faster and more sustainable development, towards achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
To realise Party’s guideline, the Government promulgated the National strategy on green growth for the 2010-2020 period with a vision extending to 2050 and has detailed action plans for ministries and sectors to deploy the strategy, he noted.
However, there are still challenges for Vietnam in developing green growth, he noted, since the country now has to deal with double requirements of addressing economic and environmental impacts of brown growth while striving to develop the green economy with limited resources.
He asked the VACNE to enhance its operation, increase international co-operation and people-to-people exchanges in order to mobilise more external resources to facilitate Vietnam’s goals for sustainable development and climate change adaption.
Delegates from the VACNE agreed that green economy was a globally recognised approach to sustainable development, particularly in the context of the increasing severity of climate change.
They also expressed their belief that Party and State’s guidelines have laid a firm legal foundation for the development of Vietnam’s green economy.
