PM Hun Sen made the statement at a December 27 meeting with Vietnamese investors in Hanoi, which also saw the presence of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Nam Hong.
He spoke highly of Vietnamese businesses, adding that he wants them to continue intensifying operations in Cambodia and sharing Vietnam’s development experience.
Association of Vietnamese Investors to Cambodia (AVIC) President Tran Bac Ha said that the association has performed well in its role in linking Vietnam-Cambodia trade and investment activities through its support of businesses.
The AVIC has also paid great attention to social welfare programmes in the neighbouring country, investing US$35 million on education, healthcare and support for poor people.
Earlier the same day, the Cambodian leader met with 500 Vietnamese experts and volunteer soldiers who fought in battlefields in Cambodia at a gathering with the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
PM Hun Sen expressed his delight at the fine development of the two countries’ relations.
The two countries are determined to lift their friendship and comprehensive co-operation to a new height with a two-way trade turnover objective of US$5 billion by 2015, he added.
Representing the Vietnamese experts and volunteer soldiers, Nguyen Van De recalled the time when he and his comrades fought alongside the Cambodian people and the revolutionary armed force against the genocidal regime of Pol Pot.
PM Hun Sen is currently on an official visit to Vietnam from December 26-28 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung.
