The PM made the remark at his working visit to Ninh Thuan province on April 13, amid the severe drought affecting the province since early this year. PM Dung and a government delegation inspected the drought situation in Bac Ai and Ninh Hai districts.
PM Dung encouraged local people in Dong Day village, Phuoc Trung commune, Bac Ai district, where is the worst drought-hit areas. The locals have to depend on water carried by trucks from other areas, receiving an average of 20 litres per household per day. The PM affirmed that the government will prioritise supporting the locals to ensure adequate water for production and daily life.
The PM also listened to their concerns and goals of authorities and local people at Phuoc Trung commune, Bac Ai district.
He asked Bac Ai district to ensure water for the 55,000 cattle of local people.
The PM also stressed that Ninh Thuan should focus on urgent solutions to water shortages. Especially in the context of climate change, the province must restructure crops and livestock production, develop appropriate regional planning of land and water use, and speed up construction of irrigation works.
PM Dung also noted that the drought will increase the risk of epidemiologic outbreak. For that reason, he asked the medical sector and local people to strengthen prevention of diseases.
