The Russian PM was born on September 14, 1965 in Leningrad. He graduated from the faculty of law at Leningrad State University in 1987. In 1990, he defended his dissertation at Leningrad State University. He holds a PhD in law and is an Associate Professor.
From 1990 to 1999, he taught at Sankt-Peterburg State University. From 1990 to 1995, he worked as an advisor to the Chairman of the Leningrad city Council. In 1999, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Government Executive Office, then Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office. From 2000, he held the position of First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Executive Office. He then, in sequence, served as Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom.
From October 2003, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Executive Office. In January 2005, he became first Deputy Prime Minister. From March 2008 to March 2012, he held the position of President of the Russian Federation. From May 2012 to March 2018, he served as Prime Minister of Russia. In May 2018, he was re-appointed his present position as Prime Minister of Russia.
