Thai Nguyen city marks 55th anniversary of establishment

A ceremony was held in the northern province of Tay Ninh on October 19 to mark the 55th anniversary of the city’s establishment and development (October 19, 1962-2017).

The ceremony was attended by Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; and National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Thai Nguyen city People's Committee Le Quang Tuan recalled the fine traditions of the city over the past 55 years of development.

The Party committee, administration and people of Thai Nguyen has always upheld their solidarity and creativeness to overcome any difficulties and challenges, striving to build a modern city, a dynamic economic centre, and an important gateway connecting the mountainous midland region of the North with the capital city of Hanoi, he noted.

Addressing the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh praised the contributions made by the city's Party, government and people to national liberation and reunification, as well as their achievements towards socio-economic development in recent years.

55 years of development is Thai Nguyen’s proud milestone, Deputy PM Minh said, urging the city to take action in order to turn it into a new source of strength, bringing about further strong growth and a more prosperous and happy life for the people.

He asked the locality to make a profound assessment of its potential and comparative advantages compared to other localities to develop comprehensive solutions to promote socio-economic development.

On the occasion, the city was also presented with the Labour Order first class and the Government’s emulation flag for its outstanding contributions.
