Addressing the ceremony, PM Phuc appreciated Da Nang and Quang Nam for the organisation of the celebration, noting that the event expresses the gratitude of the younger generation for the sacrifices of revolutionary contributors and the sound leadership of the Party in the past resistance against the US for national unification.

The formerQuang Da Special Zone was established in October 1967 comprising of Quang Da province and Da Nang city. Under the leadership of the Quang Da Party Committee, soldiers and local people attended the General Offensive and Uprising against the US in 1968 and contributed to the liberation of Da Nang city in 1975 as well as the liberation of Southern Vietnam.

After completing its mission, the special zone was merged with Quang Nam province to become Quang Nam-Da Nang province in 1975. Quang Nam-Da Nang province was then separated into Quang Nam province and Da Nang city in 1996.

Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Secretary of Quang Nam provincial Party Committee affirmed the sound policy of the Party in the establishment of the Quang Da Special Zone’s Party Committee which had made significant contributions towards the victory against the US.

PM Phuc said that Quang Nam and Da Nang are now two independent administrative units with solid development, but authorities of the two localities should continue to coordinate and support each other for further development.

He noted that the lives of local people in remote, disadvantaged and former revolutionary areas are still difficult, thus, asking local authorities to make more efforts to improve their lives.
