While praising efforts made by the ambassador and his colleagues in bolstering ties with Vietnam, President Tran Dai Quang expressed his delight at the comprehensive development of the bilateral relations which was reflected through visits of high-ranking leaders and officials from ministries and sectors of both nations.

The two countries have paid due attention to enhancing cooperation in economy and trade, culture, tourism as well as education and training, he said, adding that they have worked closely and supported each other at international organisations and multilateral forums, especially the UN and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.

The President expects that both sides will promote strengths and potentials to deepen cooperative while affirming that Vietnam always attaches great importance to developing relations with countries in South America, including Uruguay.

The Vietnamese leader also hoped that with the considerable understanding of Vietnam-Uruguay relations, the diplomat will continue his efforts to support and further promote the sound friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, the Uruguayan diplomat thanked the Vietnamese Government, ministries and sectors for helping him fulfill his tasks over the past six years.

In the past six years, the two sides have inked a number of cooperation agreements, creating a foundation for collaboration in various fields, he said, noting that Uruguay wants to complete a deal with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to bring Uruguayan beef and other farm produce to the Vietnamese market.

As part of efforts to increase links between ministries and sectors of Uruguay and Vietnam, Uruguay opened its Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this year, he said.

The ambassador also took the occasion to convey President Tarabe Vazquez’s invitation to President Tran Dai Quang to visit Uruguay, stressing that the Vietnamese President’s first visit to the country is a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

President Tran Dai Quang said that he will arrange to pay a state visit to the South American country and invited President Tarabe Vazquez to visit Vietnam.
