Senior revolutionary Nguyen Van Tran passes away at 101

Nguyen Van Tran, a veteran Vietnamese revolutionary who joined the Communist Party in 1935, has passed away aged 101.

He was born in 1917 in Bac Ninh province and joined the revolution in 1935, engaging in activities among print workers as well as a trade union in Hanoi. After the August Revolution in 1945, he was named Secretary of Hanoi.

During his more than 80 years of service, he held many important posts, including Minister of Transport, Minister of Heavy Industries, Head of the Central Economic Commission, Director of the Central Institute of Economic Management and other Party and Government posts.

He has been awarded the Golden Star Order, the 80-year Party membership insignia and other accolades for his substantial contributions to the nation.

A state funeral for the senior revolutionary is to be held at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi on December 14. He will be cremated three days later.
