The deputy PM made the statement during his working session with leaders of the central province on the acceleration of sustainable tourism development, on April 7.
He recognised the significant results attained by Quang Binh in economic and socio-cultural development over recent years, especially the locale’s efforts to rise above in developing tourism – its spearhead economic sector.
Deputy PM Dam urged the province to boost investment promotion and take effective measures to stimulate tourism growth in a fast and sustainable manner.
Quang Binh needs to work out a long-term vision in cultural and tourism development, he said, asking the locality to pay attention to human resource training for the tourism industry, give priority to developing community-based tourism, and associate tourism development with ensuring the ecological environment and social culture.
Over the past few years, Quang Binh has recorded positive results in its tourism activities. The province served 3.9 million arrivals of tourists last year, up 18.2% annually, and more than 895,000 arrivals in the first quarter of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%. Quang Binh currently has over 350 tourist accommodation establishments, together with a system of hotels, homestay and farmstay, with about 5,200 rooms. In 2019, the locality strives to welcome 4.3 million tourist arrivals, including 250,000-300,000 international arrivals. Total revenues from tourism are expected to hit VND5 trillion (US$215 million).
Earlier the same day, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam visited and inspected tourism development activities and community-based models at the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park world heritage site.
