Talking with the officers, the Government leader hailed the Military Zone 5 as an important locale, affirming that the Party and State pay close attention to the zone.

He recognised that in 2019, the military zone thoroughly grasped the resolutions of the Politburo, the Party Central Committee, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defence on the defence tasks in the area in a specific, flexible, solid and appropriate manner.

Regarding the military zone’s international cooperation results, PM Phuc spoke highly of the Vietnam People’s Army, specifically the Military Zone 5, giving timely assistance to help the Lao people minimise damage in the 2018 dam collapse in Attapeu province. He also lauded the military zone’s performance in combating cross-border crime, especially smuggling and drug trafficking, and in helping the people to prevent and overcome the aftermath of natural disasters.

Concerning the tasks ahead, the leader asked the military zone’s Party committee, commanders and soldiers to continue to thoroughly grasp the Party and State’s viewpoints and defence policies, in addition to staying on constant alert and firmly grasping the sea and island situations to prevent any regrettable occurrences.

In particular, the Party committee and commanders of the Military Zone 5 should care for the lives of officials and soldiers, especially those who are on duty in the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) occasion, PM Phuc said.
