Press agencies need to develop methodical digital transformation strategy

Press agencies are moving towards digital transformation, but not all Vietnamese press agencies have devised specific digital transformation strategies. The Vietnam Journalists’ Association and media agencies have coordinated to orient and guide Vietnamese press agencies in building a methodical digital transformation strategy.

The statement was made by Member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh at a conference entitled “Digital transformation in journalism” held by the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists’ Association on March 30.

Minh, who is also Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education as well as Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, pointed out factors for successful digital transformation including tech-savvy leaders, capacity building for employees, conditions for employees to work according to new methods, increased use of digital tools, and regular communication through traditional and digital means.

He noted that press agencies need to create conditions for employees to work according to new methods, encourage new ways of working, and change working behaviour throughout the system. It is also important to create practices for operating in new ways and urgently implement digital transformation in press agencies.

According to Minh, digital transformation is a process that cannot be ignored but can lead to unpredictable things. As such, each press agency should research and learn the world’s best practices in accordance with Vietnam's own cultural identity issues.

Minh also emphasised the importance to improve the digital capacity of newsrooms, not only electronic newspapers but also print, radio and television, to pull readers closer to the press.

He also shared the successful experiences of international press agencies thanks to digital application to better meet the trends and tastes of readers while sharing solutions to renew all publications of Nhan Dan Newspaper in recent times.

*On the occasion, Le Quoc Minh announced the decision of the Vietnam Journalists Association to appoint journalist Tran Trong Dung as Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association in charge of the South for the 2020-2025 period.
