Da Nang topped the swimming event with 15 gold, one silver and four bronze medals, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 13 gold, one silver and five bronze medals, and Hai Phong with four gold, four silver and three bronze.
Top Vietnamese male swimming star Hoang Quy Phuoc (Da Nang) performed outstandingly at the event, winning a total of 15 gold medals, helping Da Nang claim the champion title. Phuoc also broke two national records in the men’s 400 metre freestyle and 200 metre butterfly events with respective times of 3’55.24 and 1’58.71.
In the women’s events, impressive 13-year-old Long An native, Tran Thi Hong Cam bagged gold and broke national records in the 800 metre freestyle with the time of 9’1.55.
The finswimming competition saw Hanoi come in first with six gold, three silver, and nine bronze, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with five gold, 12 silver and three bronze, and Da Nang with four gold, five silver and two bronze.
The event attracted the participation of 170 athletes from 26 teams from across the country competing for 66 sets of medals in swimming and finswimming in 25 metre pools.
