Sampling of Broadway musicals to be staged in HCMC

Theatre lovers will have an opportunity to enjoy excerpts from world famous Broadway musicals at a concert at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on June 19.

The concert will include masterpieces that have stirred the hearts of millions around the world, such as “Notre Dame de Paris”, “Romeo and Juliette”, ”Cats”, ”Phantom of the Opera”, “My Fair Lady” and “Les Miserables”

The excerpts will be staged by conductor Tran Nhat Minh and talented young artist Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, and performed by famous singers from the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) including Tran Hong Vy, Pham Duyen Huyen, Tran Duy Linh and Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga.

In addition, the concert will feature the participation of French ballet dancer Chloé Glemot and dancers from the ballet troupe under the HBSO.

Broadway music has been around since the early 20th century and is a form of operetta mixing the most attractive elements of many genres including symphony, choral, classical and contemporary dance, playing with novel effects in lighting and sound.

This is the second time the HBSO has put on a production of Broadway music. The first concert in 2014 attracted a large number of Vietnamese music lovers.
