Winners of Science and Technology Press Awards honoured

NDO—Four first, four second, seven third and nine consolation prizes were presented to the best entries in the Science and Technology Press Awards 2016 at a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 6.

The winning entries were honoured for providing full coverage of activities and achievements of the science and technology sector in increasing the national economy’s competitiveness, improving the business environment, reforming administrative procedures, and supporting businesses in their operation, particularly start-up companies.

The awards, hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), received around 755 entries in four categories of newspapers, online newspapers, radio and television.

It was first launched in 2012 to encourage journalists and press agencies to be more positive in reporting on sci-tech research outcomes in order to bring the latest advances to life and production.

The awards also aim to raise public awareness of the role and impacts of science and technology on socio-economic growth as well as in the country’s integration and development.

Throughout its five editions, the organising board has received approximately 3,810 works from both local and central newspapers and radio and television stations across the country

Addressing the event, Pham Cong Tac, MOST Deputy Minister and Head of the organising board acknowledged significant contributions made by the press in drawing more interest from readers in science and technology and updating them on latest news on the field.
