According to the city’s Centre for Disease Control, local hospitals are treating 36,771 active patients, including 905 in critical condition.

Currently, the country's current largest COVID-19 hotspot still has 30 ongoing infection chains that have been localised and closely monitored, while 14 others have recorded no new cases and eight chains have been terminated tracking.

To support the southern hub in providing treatment to COVID-19 patients, on July 29, the Ministry of Health decided to establish three Intensive Care Centres run by central-level hospitals in Hanoi and Thua Thien Hue province, with a total of 1,500 beds.

Accordingly, Hanoi-based Viet Duc Hospital is assigned in charge of the ministry’s 500-bed COVID-19 Resuscitation Hospital in Thu Duc District. Bach Mai Hospital is in charge of the Intensive Care Centre at the city’s COVID-19 treatment hospital No. 16 with a scale of 500 beds. Hue Central Hospital is assigned the task of setting up a 500-bed centre at the city’s COVID-19 treatment hospital No. 13.

Together with the 1,000-bed Ho Chi Minh City COVID-19 Resuscitation Hospital, operated by Cho Ray Hospital at the City Oncological Hospital No.2, they will focus on treating patients in critical condition.

In Da Nang on the same day, the central coastal city launched a large-scale vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for priority groups, with the largest number of doses injected so far.

Accordingly, a total of 33,600 doses will be given to fully vaccinate 16,800 people, belonging to prioritised target groups including frontliners, starting from July 29 to August 5 for the first dose, and from August 28 to September 6 for the second dose.

So far, more than 33,000 people have been vaccinated during three rounds of vaccination against COVID-19 in Da Nang. In this fourth wave, the Ministry of Health plans to allocate nearly 70,000 doses to the city, including 30,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, 5,850 doses of Pfizer and 33,600 doses of Moderna.

In the capital city of Hanoi, 26 new COVID-19 cases have been detected as of this noon, bringing the total infections during the 4th wave of outbreak (from April 27) to 974, of which 595 were recorded in the community. The capital city is now under a two-week social distancing order.
