Localities raise billions of VND for COVID-19 battle

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Dong Nai and Soc Trang provinces launched fundraising campaigns on March 27 and mobilised an initial amount of over VND12 billion (US$510,074) for the fight against COVID-19 in Vietnam.

At the event in Dong Nai, local organisations and businesses donated more than VND11 billion (roughly US$471,600), in addition to 400 automatic hand sanitizer dispensers and 2,000 litres of antibacterial solution.

In addition, over the past few days, many units, individuals, schools and companies in the province have donated money, masks and medical equipment in a joint effort to combat the epidemic.

Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Dao Van Phuoc applauded the donors and pledged to promptly send the donated money and goods to the units and individuals directly involved in epidemic prevention and control work in the concentrated isolation areas.

The fundraising event in Soc Trang saw more than 60 businesses, organisations and individuals donate over VND1 billion (US$42,500) for the mission on the opening day of the campaign.

* In order to raise funds for the COVID-19 fight, An Ninh Thu Do (Capital Security) newspaper and Indochine Art JSC will put up a total of 60 art works for auction from March 29 to April 4.

The auction will be conducted online at https://www.facebook.com/Indochineart-153288118659489 with five sessions, each of which will last for 48 hours with 12 lots on offer.

Proceeds collected from the auction will be used to support frontline medical workers, the organisers said, calling on artists, collectors and donors to present and buy the works, or donate cash.
