Ho Chi Minh City achieves positive results following tightened social distancing measures

Ho Chi Minh City has achieved many initial positive results after seven days of implementing the Prime Minister’s Official Dispatch No.1099/CD-TTg and the City People’s Committee’s Directive No.11 on tightening social distancing and COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

The Ho Chi Minh City's Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control made the statement at a press conference on August 29.

Deputy Head of the City COVID-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee Pham Duc Hai said that the city authorities have completed rapid antigen testing for all people in “orange” and “red zones” (high-risk areas) with a total of 1,677,154 samples. The second round of testing for residents in the high-risk areas must be completed by September 1.

The Municipal People’s Committee also asked for the acceleration of sample taking for testing in lower-risk areas.

Regarding vaccination against COVID-19 epidemic, Ho Chi Minh City has injected 5,865,276 doses of vaccine as of August 28.

Hai also noted that the City Fatherland Front Committee has received donations of essential supplies from many organisations and enterprises, including vegetables, rice, cooking oil, sugar, soy sauce and seasoning.

The goods have been packed into “welfare bags” to assist people who are living in difficult circumstances in the city. From August 15-29, a total of 960,210 “welfare bags” were transferred to Thu Duc City and districts.

The city authorities have provided 53,776 poor households with financial aid worth nearly VND59 billion (about US$2.6 million).

Working groups, with a total of 754 officers, have been assigned to support the COVID-19 prevention and control efforts in 21 districts and Thu Duc City.

* In order to ensure political security, social order and safety in Hanoi and strict implementation of social distancing during the National Day Holiday, the Municipal Party Committee has issued Official Dispatch No.186-CV/TU, asking leaders at all levels to direct functional forces to strictly implement anti-epidemic measures.

The Municipal Party Committee also asked the authorities to enhance inspection and strict supervision of the implementation of the directions by the central agencies and the city on social distancing to prevent the spread of pandemic.

* A hospital to receive and provide treatment for severe and critical COVID-19 patients in Hanoi and neighbouring localities will be put into operation on September 1.

Located on an area of 3.5 ha in Yen So Ward, Hoang Mai District, the 500-bed hospital is expected to mobilise around 1,000 medical workers, including 272 doctors and 680 nurses.

* Thanh Xuan District in Hanoi has just activated a concentrated quarantine area in COVID-19 prevention and control at A1 building in Kim Giang Ward.

The 15-storey quarantine area has the capacity of receive 500 people who come from epidemic-hit areas or have epidemiological factors according to the guidance in the Minister of Health’s Decision No. 878/QD-BYT, dated March 12, 2020.

* The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has allowed shippers to resume their operations in eight “red zones”, including Thu Duc City, Districts 8 and 12, and the districts of Binh Tan, Binh Thanh, Binh Chanh and Hoc Mon, from August 30.

The shippers must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and received rapid COVID-19 testing every day.

The decision aims to ensure the timely supply of food and necessities for local residents during the social distancing period.
