Su Pan 2 power plant first turbine joins national grid

Nhan Dan Online – After four years under construction, the first turbine of the Su Pan 2 hydroelectric power plant in the northern province of Lao Cai was successfully connected to the national grid on December 6.

This is one of three turbines at the plant, which will be put into full operation over the next three days with a total capacity of 34.5 MW. When the remaining two turbines join the national grid, the plant will be capable of generating 165 million kwh of electricity annually.

The plant was invested with a total of VND 950 billion (US$45 million) by the Song Da – Hoang Lien Hydropower Joint Stock Company.

Su Pan 2 is the first of the medium-sized (between 10 and 36 MW) hydroelectric power plants being constructed on the Ngoi Bo River in Ban Ho commune, Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province, to link up with the national grid.
