In recent years, natural disasters in Viet Nam have been tending to increase in both frequency and intensity, becoming ever more extreme and unpredictable.

Applying science and technology in forecasting and early warning of natural disasters is identified as an urgent requirement in the context of increasing extreme weather.

Successive and severe natural disasters that have struck Viet Nam since the beginning of this year have left 409 people dead or missing and 727 others injured, with estimated economic losses of more than 85 trillion VND (3.2 billion USD).
