Across the area under the responsibility of Military Region 2, more than 29,000 sons and daughters of the Fatherland laid down their lives in heroic sacrifice; more than 4,800 martyrs are still awaiting search and recovery; and among nearly 400 martyrs' cemeteries, more than 18,000 graves have yet to be fully identified. These figures reflect the enormous scope of the "500-day campaign to intensify the search, recovery and identification of martyrs' remains."
