The “nightmare” scenario of tens of millions of people falling into hunger due to conflict in the Middle East is at risk of becoming reality, as United Nations statistics show that the number of people facing food insecurity has risen alarmingly.

Poverty-reduction work in Nghe An province has seen many positive improvements thanks to decisive and comprehensive direction. Poverty-reduction policies and programmes have been implemented promptly and correctly to the right target groups, creating more jobs and increasing incomes for local people; at the same time, the awareness and determination of many households to rise out of poverty has been increasingly strengthened.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, themed “True dignity for all”, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, sent a message calling for efforts to renew the commitment to a better world for all.
