Viet Nam's aquatic exports maintained solid momentum in the first half of 2026, with turnover rising 12.8% year-on-year to nearly 5.8 billion USD, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

In September alone, the exports earned nearly 991 million USD, rising 7.5% compared to the same month last year.

Together with linh fish, basa fish is a natural speciality bestowed on Dong Thap, the headwater province of rivers and waters, during the flood season. The further downstream towards other provinces, the scarcer basa fish becomes.

Vietnamese tra fish (pangasius) industry has risen to the top of the world in terms of Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified pangasius output, continuing to expand its market share in premium markets. However, enterprises and aquaculture households must quickly adapt to the new ASC standards, which include additional regulations and stringent technical requirements.

With an annual export value of around 2 billion USD, tra fish (pangasius) industry plays a pivotal role in making Viet Nam the world’s third-largest seafood exporter. However, the industry’s value chain still heavily relies on low value-added and minimally processed products.

Seven Vietnamese tra fish (pangasius) exporters have been made exempt from the US anti-dumping duties in the 20th administrative review (POR20), the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has said.

The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap expects to earn over 980 million USD from tra fish exports by 2025, according to a provincial development plan.
