The UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution on the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development reflects Viet Nam’s increasingly proactive role at multilateral forums.

Shortly after the UN General Assembly’s September 4 plenary session adopted a resolution proclaiming 2027–2036 as the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development, an initiative promoted by a core group comprising Viet Nam, Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, UNESCO leaders and representatives of many member states of this organisation have welcomed the significant development.

The UN General Assembly on September 4 adopted a resolution on the “International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development (2027–2036)”, proposed and promoted by Viet Nam together with a core group comprising Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar and Saint Kitts and Nevis, with 103 countries as co-sponsors.

Amid the gradual emergence of a multipolar world, developing countries are becoming increasingly important factors in promoting multilateralism, mediating conflicts, and driving economic development. However, the member structure of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the UN's top governing body, is considered not to fully reflect the role and contributions of developing countries to global peace and security.

Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations (UN), has held a meeting with Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), at the UN headquarters in New York to discuss the progress of the 11th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT RevCon), which is taking place from April 27 to May 22 in New York.​

The United Nations (UN) will continue paying attention to and support Vietnam's development priorities towards green and sustainable orientations, and just transition, especially in terms of financial access, UN Secretary-General Antonió Guterres told Vietnamese Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh on September 23.
