According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the three contestants from the Vietnamese delegation were awarded their Medals for Excellence at the closing ceremony of the 48th WorldSkills Competition.
Do Van Duc, a student at Ha Noi University of Industry, won the Medal for Excellence in the CNC Turning category. He was also selected as an outstanding performer to represent Viet Nam and be honoured at the closing ceremony.
Two other contestants, namely Nguyen Ngoc Duoc, a student at Phenikaa University, and Ong Phu Quy, a student at Khanh Hoa College of Technology and Energy, won Medals for Excellence in the CNC Milling and Renewable Energy categories, respectively.
The Medal for Excellence is awarded to contestants who score 700 points or higher out of a possible 800 but do not win a gold, silver, or bronze medal. The results achieved by these three contestants serve as recognition of their professional competence and the preparation undertaken for this international competition.
This year, the Vietnamese delegation comprised 12 contestants competing across 11 skill categories: Mechatronics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Fashion Technology, Renewable Energy, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Car Painting, Health and Social Care, Electrical Installations, and Heavy Vehicle Technology.
The WorldSkills competition features over 1,400 contestants from more than 70 countries and territories competing across 64 skill categories. The competitions demand high standards of professional knowledge, practical skills, technological application, precision, and discipline. The event provides a platform for young contestants from diverse nations and territories to showcase their skills in a competitive international environment.
For the Vietnamese delegation, each competition segment offered an opportunity for contestants to apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired and honed, while also familiarising themselves with the technical, technological, and professional standards required at the global level.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, participation in the event also enabled Vietnamese experts and teachers to exchange experiences with international delegations. The knowledge and insights gained during the preparation and competition phases can serve as a valuable resource for training institutions to further innovate their curricula, teaching methods, and practical training organisation. The practical experiences gained during the competition contribute to enriching domestic vocational training.
The 49th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Aichi, Japan, in 2028.
