Trade and services activities maintain relatively high growth rate in September 2026

According to the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, in September 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue were estimated to increase by 14.1% compared with the same period in 2025; in the third quarter of 2026, they were estimated to increase by 3.3% compared with the previous quarter and by 14.5% compared with the same period in 2025.

In the first nine months of 2026 as a whole, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased by 13.4% compared with the same period in 2025, showing that the service sectors continued to recover strongly, making a positive contribution to the growth of the trade and services sector and the economy.

Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices in September 2026 were estimated at 690.6 trillion VND, up 1.7% from the previous month and 14.1% year on year.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in September was estimated to decrease by 1% from the previous month but increase by 19.7% year on year; revenue from travel and tourism services decreased by 4.4% from the previous month but increased by 19.2% year on year; revenue from other goods and services increased by 3.4% and 14.5%, respectively.

In the third quarter of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices were estimated at 2,039 trillion VND, up 3.3% from the previous quarter and 14.5% year on year.

In the first nine months of 2026 as a whole, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue at current prices were estimated at 5,925.7 trillion VND, up 13.4% compared with the same period in 2025.

Retail sales of goods in the first nine months of 2026 were estimated at 4,463.6 trillion VND, accounting for 75.3% of the total and up 12.8% compared with the same period in 2025. Some localities recorded relatively high growth in retail sales of goods in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025: Da Nang increased by 14%; Quang Ninh by 13.7%; Bac Ninh by 13.5%; Can Tho by 13.4%; Hai Phong by 13.2%; Dong Nai by 12.8%; Ha Noi by 12.7%; and Ho Chi Minh City by 12%.

Revenue from accommodation and catering services in the first nine months of 2026 was estimated at 758.6 trillion VND, accounting for 12.8% of the total and up 16.7% compared with the same period in 2025. Some localities recorded high growth in revenue in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025: Da Nang increased by 21.7%; Quang Ninh by 20.6%; Khanh Hoa by 20.5%; Hue by 20.4%; Lam Dong by 19.4%; Ninh Binh and Bac Ninh both by 19.1%; Ha Noi by 16.3%; Can Tho by 15.5%; and Ho Chi Minh City by 14.1%.

Revenue from travel and tourism services in the first nine months of 2026 was estimated at 78.1 trillion VND, accounting for 1.3% of the total and up 17.9% compared with the same period in 2025. Some localities recorded high growth in revenue in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025: Ca Mau increased by 86%; Bac Ninh by 45.3%; Tay Ninh by 41.3%; Lam Dong by 37.7%; Khanh Hoa by 29.3%; Hue by 28.9%; Quang Ninh by 25.7%; Lao Cai by 17.8%; Ha Noi and Da Nang both by 16.5%; and Ho Chi Minh City by 15.9%.

Revenue from other services in the first nine months of 2026 was estimated at 625.4 trillion VND, accounting for 10.6% of the total and up 13.4% compared with the same period in 2025. Some localities recorded relatively high growth in revenue in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025: Quang Ninh increased by 34.1%; Hue by 27.3%; Da Nang by 23.4%; Khanh Hoa by 21.1%; Dong Nai and Bac Ninh both by 17.8%; Hai Phong by 15.8%; Ha Noi by 11.0%; and Ho Chi Minh City by 9.8%.

Notably, statistics also showed that telecommunications revenue at current prices in the third quarter of 2026 was estimated at 103.4 trillion VND, up 8% compared with the same period in 2025. In the first nine months of 2026 as a whole, telecommunications service revenue was estimated at 308.3 trillion VND, up 6.86% compared with the same period in 2025.

The total number of telephone subscriptions at the end of September was estimated at 114.1 million, down 7.9% compared with the same period in 2025, of which mobile subscriptions numbered 111.1 million, down 8.6%. The decline in the number of mobile subscriptions compared with the previous period was due to telecommunications enterprises implementing the provisions of Circular No. 08/2026/TT-BKHCN dated March 31, 2026 of the Ministry of Science and Technology on the standardisation and verification of mobile subscriber information and confirmation of the identity of the registered user; telephone subscriptions that had not completed the required standardisation, confirmation and verification procedures had their services suspended.

The number of fixed broadband internet subscriptions at the end of September was estimated at 25 million, down 0.04% compared with the same period in 2025.
