Bac Lieu fishermen celebrate Whale Festival

Folk games, cooking contests, a procession and tuong (classical drama) singing were amongst activities organised to show gratitude to the whale.

Fishermen, who consider the whale to be a kind of god able to bring better fishing seasons and safety at sea, have held the annual event for dozens of years.

It is also time to pray for fair winds and good seas, good luck and prosperity.

The festival is also celebrated in other coastal provinces around the country.
