Xuan Van Commune of Yen Son District is considered the "pomelo basket" in Tuyen Quang. Le Hong Viet, Chairman of Xuan Van Commune People's Committee, said that the commune has nearly 1,000 hectares of pomelos concentrated in the villages of Soi Ha, Soi Dat, Do Thuong 6, Van Giang, and Dong Cay.
In order to grow pomelo trees with high yield and good fruit quality, many households have composted organic fertilizers to fertilize the trees. With the current trend of developing clean agriculture, using organic fertilizers has practical benefits such as creating clean products, with less abuse of chemical fertilizers, thereby helping to nourish and protect the soil environment for a long time, thus protecting the environment and human health.
Currently, many households in Xuan Van Commune are using self-composted organic fertilizers to fertilize crops. The farmers' proactive and creative application of science and technology, changing the direction of care to create quality and high-productivity products, not only helps to increase family income but also contributes to the overall economic development of the localities, which has contributed to reducing the rate of multidimensional poverty household in the commune to 15%.
In the period 2013-2023, Tuyen Quang province had 172 scientific and technological topics and projects at provincial, ministerial and national levels organised and implemented. Topics and projects focus on the application of scientific and technical advances to production, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and building new-style rural areas.
Scientific research activities also make important contributions to branding and brand development of specialty products of the province such as: Phuc Ninh pomelo, Xuan Van persimmon (Yen Son); gai cake, Chiem Hoa peanut; Trung Long green tea (Son Duong), Shan tea (Na Hang).
The application of science and technology into production has significantly increased efficiency, creating a breakthrough in agricultural production in the province. The research and application of research results on biotechnology, microbiology, and plant and animal varieties have contributed to the requirements of improving the value of products and goods, transforming the structure of both crops and the local agricultural economy towards sustainable development.
Many products thanks to the application of technology have built a foothold in the market, sold by supermarkets and clean agricultural stores in Tuyen Quang City and many provinces and cities.
However, the development of OCOP products in the industrial direction still has many barriers and difficulties; lack of skilled labour, small and spontaneous product consumption; investment funds for local branded products are limited. In addition, the implementation content is not rich; the level of support for some contents is still very low.
Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Tuyen Quang Province Nguyen Dai Thanh said that many recent scientific research results have been transferred and applied to agricultural production, such as new varieties and new technological processes, which has contributed to reducing investment costs, increasing profits, and bringing high economic efficiency in agricultural production. In which, the application of scientific and technological advances is considered a key solution, creating a breakthrough in productivity, quality, and labour efficiency.
