The recipients of the packages, worth a total of 3 billion VND (132,500 USD), are migrant workers who are facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are also at high risk of gender-based violence.
The activity is part of the Safe and Fair programme, aimed at eliminating violence against migrant women in the ASEAN region, funded by the European Union.
The delivery of these essential packages will help migrant women to respond to violence, ensuring their dignity and safety, said Jesús Laviña, Deputy Head of the Cooperation Section at the EU delegation to Vietnam.
Speaking at an event on distributing the packages in Ho Chi Minh City, VWU President Ha Thi Nga stated that this activity will help remove the difficulties facing women, enhancing their awareness and confidence, while reducing their risk of vulnerability.
During the fourth wave of COVID-19, women were among the hardest hit groups, suffering from job losses, reduced working hours and incomes.
