Chieng On Border Guard Station is tasked with managing and protecting more than 33km of the border, covering 18 locations with 19 national border markers. It is responsible for the areas of Phieng Khoai Commune and Yen Son Commune in Son La Province, which border the communes of Na Thong, Lao Hung, and Phieng Xa in Xiengkhor District, Houaphanh Province. The area includes the Na Cai-Sop Dung auxiliary border gate and the Keo Muong-Na Khang border crossing.
Since the beginning of the year, border guard forces on both sides, in coordination with Xiengkhor District Police, have conducted 34 joint patrols in the areas flanking the border gate, involving a total of 804 personnel. During these patrols, the forces detected and dealt with one case of illegal entry and exit involving one individual, imposing an administrative fine of 7.5 million Vietnamese dong.
Chieng On Border Guard Station has processed border-crossing procedures for nearly 3,000 people and more than 2,000 vehicles at the Na Cai Auxiliary Border Gate Control Station. The unit has maintained border guard external relations activities, including visits and gift-giving on holidays, during the Lunar New Year, and on the traditional anniversaries of the forces on both sides.
At the ceremony, the units established twinning relations between the Na Cai Auxiliary Border Gate Border Guard Station of Viet Nam and the Sop Dung Auxiliary Border Gate Station of Laos, and between the Keo Muong Border Guard Control Station of Viet Nam and the Na Khang Control Station of Laos.
Under the agreements, the stations will hold regular briefings and exchange information on the border situation; step up patrols and inspections at border gates and in surrounding areas; and coordinate efforts to detect and prevent illegal entry and exit, smuggling, the illegal transportation of goods, and other cross-border crimes.
The twinning agreements will establish a regular coordination mechanism between the competent forces on both sides, improving information exchange, border management and protection, and immigration control. They will also strengthen efforts to raise public awareness and encourage locals to comply with regulations governing borders and border gates, as well as the laws of each country, thereby helping maintain security and public order along the Viet Nam-Laos border.
